Starting a blog in 2023: the good, the bad, and the unreadable

Why write a blog in 2023?

Online blogging has been known for a long time as a platform by which novice writers, internet-savvy teenagers, movie reviewers, tech enthusiasts and travelers share their experiences, thoughts and sometimes even deepest, darkest secrets.

But recently, there’s this ongoing trend that I’ve noticed within the tech community where developers, technical writers, and testers are becoming a little bit more of bloggers and content creators themselves by sharing tips, tricks, and ideas through company website blogs or their own personal websites.

And the big question is always: but why though?

Here are some common reasons I’ve found by lurking on other blogs:

  1. Gain online presence. Drawing more people by having them engage with content, thereby increasing a company or individual’s online presence is key to having people interested in their products more.
  2. Create an online portfolio. Whether you’re applying for a new job or not, blogs could become a gateway through the poster’s mind as they share more about their thoughts, opinions, experiences and ideas. This could in turn help jobseekers show their mastery of…
