The better our technology gets, the more disconnected some people seem to become.

Introduction

The purpose of progress is to keep improving on what we have now. When problems arise, new technologies are developed.

When there were new diseases, new medicine was made. When people were looking for ways to communicate more quickly, cellular phones were made. And when people tried to look for ways to connect with other people across the globe, the Internet — and later on Social Media — was born. There’s always a pattern of technology trying to solve our existing problems, one way or the other.

And yet, why does it feel like the more connected we get digitally, the less connections we form with other individuals?

Recollections from the Past

I recall being in high school and sending GMs (Group Messages) with quirky sign off messages and cringy nicknames. My mom would always berate me for always being on my phone and pressing away instead of studying to pass the time (I was a consistent honor student, but let’s be real — no one in their right mind would just keep studying in their down time).
