Starting with Film Photography was something that I've always considered, but it took me a while to actually dig my shoes in and take photos. Below are some things that helped me figure out how I'm supposed to start on my film photography journey, but it should be applicable to digital photography as well!
What Are Your Main Themes/Subjects?
This is one of the most important points that I had to think about when I was getting started with film. Did I want to capture landscapes, flowers, and animals? Or did I want to take photos of the people I know and take portraits of models? It took me a while to consider, but after taking photos of sunsets and horizons, I realized that it made me feel different when the subject was alive and moving and responded to "thank you"s. And so although landscapes and sunsets still looked pretty to me, humans became my main focus point. Learning about street photography in my Humanities-I class back in college was, after all, what got me interested in photography in the first place.
Who Are You Taking The Photos For?
Back then, I used to just take photos for my friends and their Instagram feeds. And also maybe a little something I can post on my Instagram stories to show my friends and family back home how I've been doing. It hits a little differently when I started taking photos for myself.
